The opening game for the Nuggets wasn't pretty. But their defense was surprisingly stout against the Thunder.

Writer David Decker highlights the Denver Nuggets' improved defensive play as a silver lining following their 96-84 season-opening loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Despite offensive struggles from Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, Denver effectively neutralized Shai Gilgeous-Alexander by holding him to 17 points and halting his 141-game streak of scoring 20 or more points.
Decker praises Denver's perimeter scheme featuring Christian Braun and Alpha Diallo, as well as the active interior presence from Jokic. The bench unit also earned praise, with Marvin Bagley III providing solid backup minutes and rookie Trevon Brazile collecting 12 rebounds in 18 minutes.
