The Nuggets declined DaRon Holmes' team option for next season. It was the right choice.

Writer David Decker argues that the Denver Nuggets made the right move by declining the 2026-27 team option for forward DaRon Holmes II. Holmes was slated to earn $5.55 million next season but has struggled to find a role, playing just six minutes in garbage time so far this year after being overtaken on the depth chart by Trevon Brazile.
According to Decker, declining the option preserves crucial salary cap flexibility for the Nuggets ahead of next offseason. The decision leaves Denver positioned approximately $23 million beneath the projected luxury tax line as the front office navigates payroll constraints and upcoming roster decisions.
