The 2026 offseason has proven largely challenging for the Detroit Pistons. In light of the obstacles the team has faced while engaging in contract discussions with Jalen Duren, one could even say this summer has been marked by disappointment.
The Detroit Pistons signed forward Ausar Thompson to a five-year, $155 million contract extension during the 2026 offseason. While league figures viewed the contract as a major bargain for Detroit compared to the deal signed by his twin brother, Amen Thompson, with the Houston Rockets, insider Vince Goodwill explained that Thompson chose a drama-free negotiation process.
Goodwill noted that Thompson's developing offensive repertoire and previous medical history with a blood clot may have influenced his decision not to seek a larger deal. Unlike teammate Jalen Duren, whose negotiations reached a stalemate, Thompson completed his contract smoothly while maintaining his status as an elite defensive wing.
