"It's really a strange thing, and he really has one way: downhill, force, force. Every play."

Former Milwaukee Bucks coach Doc Rivers discussed the challenges of coaching Giannis Antetokounmpo and the superstar's departure during an appearance on the Bill Simmons podcast. Rivers stated that Antetokounmpo was difficult to coach due to his downhill play style and lack of elite basketball execution. He added that Antetokounmpo wanted out of Milwaukee but avoided asking directly for a trade so he would not be viewed as the bad guy.
Rivers, who took over the Bucks during the 2023-24 season, noted that Antetokounmpo now plays under Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra. Writer Kurt Helin reported that while Rivers' description of the exit reflects common perceptions, his critique of Antetokounmpo's basketball IQ and play style is likely to draw pushback from Miami.
