The swat away of a layup by a freak of nature like Wembanyama is one that will open any Thompson highlight reel for the rest of his career.

Amen Thompson made a game-sealing block at the rim against Victor Wembanyama to secure a 114-110 victory for the Houston Rockets over the San Antonio Spurs. Thompson finished the game with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists. Rockets head coach Ime Udoka and teammate Kevin Durant praised the 6-foot-7 guard's exceptional athleticism, quick jumping ability, and versatility in defending the 7-foot-5 center on the final possession.
Throughout the contest, Thompson also defended San Antonio guards De'Aaron Fox, Dylan Harper, Stephon Castle, and Devin Vassell. Alperen Şengün highlighted Thompson's basketball intelligence alongside his physical gifts. Thompson noted that earning an NBA All-Defensive selection remains a primary objective after being omitted last season.
