The Knicks won a championship with Karl-Anthony Towns, but cap rules have complicated extension talks. Now, one new development has pushed the team even closer to considering a trade. While the Knicks initially viewed trading Towns as a last resort…

The New York Knicks are reportedly considering trading Karl-Anthony Towns as contract extension negotiations between the two sides remain stalled. Towns reportedly rejected a four-year, $200 million extension offer from the franchise, falling well short of his eligible maximum deal worth up to $276 million. Sean Deveney reported that the Knicks have placed a potential trade on the table if a resolution is not reached before June 30.
Financial constraints under the NBA's second apron are driving New York's hesitation, with owner James Dolan firmly refusing to cross that salary threshold. Towns has two years and $118 million remaining on his existing contract, including a player option for the 2027-28 season.
