What's the current state of the Lakers' player development system?

Khobi Price argues that the Los Angeles Lakers must drastically improve their player development to compete with Western Conference rivals like the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs. The assessment follows the team waiving 2024 first-round draft pick Dalton Knecht to reach the standard 15-player roster limit, leaving Bronny James as the franchise's only remaining draft selection from 2023 and 2024.
While head coach JJ Redick emphasized development upon his 2024 arrival, recent draft picks have struggled to make an impact, with Jalen Hood-Schifino and Maxwell Lewis already departed. Although the Lakers successfully developed Austin Reaves and Alex Caruso in the past, Price notes that maximizing prospects like Adou Thiero and Cameron Carr is essential to contend during Luka Doncic's prime.
