The Lakers received an unwelcome injury update hours before facing the Warriors, leaving JJ Redick with an unexpected backcourt decision.

Los Angeles Lakers guard Collin Sexton has been ruled out of the team's season opener against the Golden State Warriors due to a right soleus strain. Sexton missed the entire preseason with the injury and had previously been listed as questionable before being officially sidelined on Wednesday's injury report.
His absence forces head coach JJ Redick to adjust his backcourt rotation to provide relief for Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves. Starting center Walker Kessler is cleared to play despite a finger splint, while Golden State will be without Jimmy Butler and Kristaps Porzingis.
