Following the Los Angeles Lakers' 121-106 preseason loss to the Denver Nuggets, center Walker Kessler praised opponent Nikola Jokic while asserting that teammate Luka Doncic is the better player. Kessler noted that Jokic is arguably the best player and center in the NBA, but favored Doncic. Kessler, who tallied six points, six rebounds, and four assists, welcomed the demanding matchup to knock off rust ahead of the regular season.
The game also marked the Lakers' first time pairing Kessler alongside Doncic and Austin Reaves. Reaves contributed 19 points and Doncic scored 15, though head coach JJ Redick noted early ball-security issues and sluggish energy after Los Angeles committed 14 total turnovers. Redick saw positive offensive developments in the second and third quarters as the trio continues to build chemistry before opening night.
