Veteran NBA guard Malik Beasley is in plea negotiations with the Department of Justice regarding federal sports betting, money laundering, and wire fraud charges. Beasley was indicted in June for allegedly manipulating his on-court performance to affect prop bets while playing for the Milwaukee Bucks during the 2023/24 season. Although he initially pleaded not guilty, court records indicate an intended change of plea, with a final decision expected early next week.
According to the indictment, Beasley accrued gambling debt and received a loan from former teammate Ed Davis, who was also charged and has pleaded not guilty. The investigation cost Beasley a three-year, $42 million deal with the Detroit Pistons, and he did not play in the NBA last season.
