Anthony Edwards scored 45 points to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a decisive 131-106 victory over the Miami Heat in their season opener. With this performance, Edwards joined Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan as the only players in NBA history to score at least 40 points in multiple season openers. The win spoiled Giannis Antetokounmpo's debut with the Heat.
Antetokounmpo scored 35 points on 13-of-19 shooting before fouling out, while Bam Adebayo contributed 15 points for Miami. Minnesota dominated from beyond the arc and on the boards, outscoring the Heat 63-24 on 3-pointers and holding a 52-34 rebounding advantage. Jaden McDaniels added 17 points, and Rudy Gobert secured 15 rebounds to help seal Minnesota's commanding victory.
