Giannis Antetokounmpo challenged the Miami Heat's effort following a 131-106 blowout loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday. Despite scoring 35 points in his Miami debut, Antetokounmpo took personal responsibility and stated that the team's effort and resilience must start with him. Minnesota dominated the game behind Anthony Edwards, who scored 45 points and sank nine three-pointers.
The defeat also brought outside criticism regarding Miami's rebuilt supporting cast following the offseason trade with Milwaukee. Commentator Charles Barkley questioned the depth behind Miami's top stars, while former NBA guard Jeff Teague criticized the team for resembling Antetokounmpo's former Bucks squad.
