The Miami Heat did not need long to show what their new-look offense could become. Giannis Antetokounmpo spent only 14 minutes on the floor, yet his passing immediately changed the way Miami attacked.
The Miami Heat opened their preseason with a 129-105 victory over the Toronto Raptors, powered by a dynamic playmaking debut from Giannis Antetokounmpo. Head coach Erik Spoelstra compared Antetokounmpo's vision to Magic Johnson as the forward tallied nine points, four rebounds, and seven assists in just 14 minutes. Miami built an early 41-23 lead after the first quarter, scoring 76 points in the first half despite committing 25 turnovers.
Toronto played without Kawhi Leonard, who is sidelined with an injury and working back into game shape under a cautious plan managed by coach Darko Rajakovic. Heat newcomer Klay Thompson went scoreless on two shot attempts in 13 minutes, while Tim Hardaway Jr. led Miami with 14 points on perfect shooting off the bench alongside 13 points from Pelle Larsson.
