Former Milwaukee Bucks head coach Jason Kidd defended Giannis Antetokounmpo on ESPN's NBA Today, rejecting Doc Rivers' recent criticism regarding the forward's basketball IQ. Rivers had argued on The Bill Simmons Podcast that Antetokounmpo lacked a high basketball IQ and relied excessively on overpowering defenders. Kidd disagreed, highlighting Antetokounmpo's elite ability to make plays, attack the basket, and read defenses as a top-five player in the league.
Antetokounmpo joined the Miami Heat via an offseason trade after winning two MVP awards and the 2021 NBA championship in Milwaukee. While Miami started the season 3-6 and Milwaukee fell to 1-8, Antetokounmpo has continued to post strong individual numbers, averaging 27.3 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 5.6 assists through nine games.
