The NBA will make what it calls the biggest investment ever into European basketball when it starts a new league there in 2027, deputy commissioner Mark Tatum said in a meeting with reporters on Tuesday.

The NBA plans to make its largest investment ever in European basketball by launching a new league in October 2027, according to deputy commissioner Mark Tatum. Speaking ahead of the NBA season opener, Tatum confirmed that the merit-based competition remains on track for its scheduled debut alongside partner FIBA, despite EuroLeague owners rejecting an initial merger proposal earlier this month.
Tatum stated that the NBA and FIBA are prepared to proceed independently if necessary, promising multibillion-dollar distributions to clubs over the first decade. The venture aims to fund grassroots development, academies, and arena infrastructure while incorporating both permanent franchises and qualifying teams.
