The New York Knicks may have paused discussing a contract extension with Karl-Anthony Towns, but that doesn’t mean they’re not planning for multiple outcomes.Towns, 30, is eligible to sign a four-year extension worth approximately $276 million. Unfortunately for the Knicks…

The New York Knicks have paused contract extension discussions with Karl-Anthony Towns and have reportedly put the option of him leaving in free agency on the table. While the Knicks are not actively shopping Towns, they acknowledge the possibility that the 30-year-old big man could decline his player option and walk away as an unrestricted free agent if negotiations do not progress.
Towns is eligible for a four-year maximum extension worth approximately $276 million but reportedly rejected a four-year, $200 million offer over the summer. Negotiations are further complicated by owner James Dolan's reported mandate to avoid the second luxury tax apron, alongside impending contract decisions for teammates Josh Hart and Jalen Brunson.
