Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is one of the NBA's most feared attackers, but a rule change could hinder his game this season.

Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was whistled for his first offensive foul under the NBA's updated push-off enforcement on Tuesday. The call occurred on a drive against Kelly Oubre Jr., when officials penalized the guard for using his off-arm to create space. Online basketball fans widely reacted to the viral clip, celebrating the penalty against a player known for drawing high volumes of free throws.
During the offseason, the NBA directed referees to strictly penalize push-offs using a four-point framework evaluating firmness, feeling, force, and full extension. Gilgeous-Alexander, who attempted the second-most free throws in the league last season, previously addressed his playing style in an interview, explaining that early physical limitations led him to develop deceptive techniques on the court.
