Dallas has parted ways with longtime center Dwight Powell, opening the door to a possible reunion with Team Canada teammate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in Oklahoma City.

The Dallas Mavericks waived 35-year-old veteran center Dwight Powell on Monday, October 19, ending his 12-season tenure with the franchise. Powell, who shared the court with Thunder superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander representing Canada at the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2023 FIBA World Cup, has entered free agency as Dallas finalized its roster to keep young center Moussa Cisse.
While Oklahoma City has not reported any formal interest in signing Powell, Heavy highlights him as an intriguing theoretical fit for veteran frontcourt insurance. The Thunder already maintain substantial center depth featuring Chet Holmgren, Isaiah Hartenstein, Jaylin Williams, Thomas Sorber, and Aday Mara as they enter the season with high championship expectations.
