Joel Embiid suggested that LeBron James fill in at center during foul trouble in the Philadelphia 76ers' 106-100 season-opening victory against the New York Knicks. Embiid made the suggestion to the coaching staff late in the first half after picking up three fouls, allowing him to avoid picking up a fourth while keeping Philadelphia's defensive intensity high.
With Ariel Hukporti out for the season due to an Achilles tear, head coach Nick Nurse utilized James both as a backup center and alongside Embiid to defend Karl-Anthony Towns. Meanwhile, Tyrese Maxey led the team offensively with 28 points, alongside three blocks, helping carry Philadelphia through first-half offensive struggles.
