PORTLAND – Some season openers are bad; others are warning signs. The Phoenix Suns’ embarrassing performance against the Portland Trail Blazers fell firmly into the second category.
The Phoenix Suns suffered a heavy blowout against the Portland Trail Blazers on opening night, trailing 43-12 after the first quarter and 72-39 by halftime. Burn City Sports reports that Phoenix struggled with stagnant offense and reactive defense throughout the contest. Adding to the team's woes, rookie forward Oso Ighodaro exited late in the first half after aggravating a hip injury that had previously troubled him during the preseason.
Burn City Sports critiques the Suns for lacking urgency and physicality, noting Portland heavily controlled the paint and offensive boards. Phoenix failed to make a 3-pointer until midway through the second quarter, leading Burn City Sports to conclude that relying on perimeter shooting from stars like Devin Booker, Dillon Brooks, and Jalen Green will not suffice without better offensive alternatives.
