The NBA has established formal partnerships with prediction market platforms Kalshi and Polymarket, according to a report by Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic. These prediction markets allow users to wager directly against one another on specific outcomes rather than through traditional bookmakers, operating under the regulatory oversight of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
NBA executive Scott Kaufman-Ross stated that the league waited to move forward until the proper regulatory framework was established. The agreements enable the NBA to limit the types of trades permitted on the platforms. Additionally, the league is expanding its agreements with traditional sportsbooks FanDuel, DraftKings, and Fanatics to encompass prediction-market offerings.
