Tarris Reed Jr. and Ja'Kobi Gillespie are building a case to take the Luke Kornet and Jordan McLaughlin roles on the Spurs' roster.

Air Alamo's Jahlil Williams writes that San Antonio Spurs rookies Tarris Reed Jr. and Ja'Kobi Gillespie are auditioning to replace veterans Luke Kornet and Jordan McLaughlin next season. In a 119-109 preseason loss to the Utah Jazz, Reed grabbed 17 rebounds along with four steals, while Gillespie led all scorers with 25 points, three assists, and three steals.
Williams argues that their strong preseason play could influence front-office decisions next summer. Kornet's contract includes only a partial guarantee for 2027-28, while McLaughlin is playing on a one-year expiring contract.
