The San Antonio Spurs lost to the Rockets at the free-throw line and on defense, and Victor Wembanyama’s missed game-tying attempt was the least of it.

The Houston Rockets defeated the San Antonio Spurs 114-110 at the Moody Center in Austin, despite a pivotal late-game sequence involving Victor Wembanyama and Houston's Amen Thompson. Following the loss, Wembanyama acknowledged that he should have dunked the ball on the final play. However, Air Alamo's Jahlil Williams argues that San Antonio's defensive issues, poor free-throw shooting, and foul troubles across four quarters were the primary reasons for the defeat.
Alperen Sengun led the Rockets with 29 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter, while Kevin Durant and Thompson added 20 points each. San Antonio struggled from the charity stripe, finishing 18-for-25 compared to Houston's 28-for-31. Williams notes that head coach Mitch Johnson's squad is still adjusting to new rotations after posting modest offensive and defensive ratings through their first two games.
