A 21-year-old Florida man, Saul Vargas, has been convicted and ordered to pay $500 in restitution after smashing a New York City taxi during riots following Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals. Vargas took a plea deal for disorderly conduct in a Manhattan courtroom three months after the incident. The St. Cloud resident went viral in video clips showing him shirtless and jumping on the vehicle.
The incident occurred on June 11 near Madison Square Garden after the New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 107-106 to set up their first NBA championship in 53 years. Vargas expressed remorse outside the courtroom, apologizing to the 59-year-old taxi driver, Noureddine Bitat, and admitting he was "being stupid" while celebrating his birthday.
