Despite publicly calling to play Sunday against the Pistons, the 76ers decided to sit Joel Embiid due to right foot plantar fasciitis management.

The Philadelphia 76ers overruled Joel Embiid's request to play and ruled out the star center for Sunday night's 106-93 loss to the Detroit Pistons due to right foot plantar fasciitis management. Embiid had publicly asked reporters to put pressure on the team following Saturday's win over the Milwaukee Bucks, but Philadelphia opted to rest him for the second night of their back-to-back set to prioritize his long-term health.
Embiid's absence was compounded by several other injuries, leaving Adem Bona as Philadelphia's only active true center alongside VJ Edgecombe, Dominick Barlow, Jabari Walker, and Tacko Fall, who were all ruled out. Detroit was also without starting center Jalen Duren, who is sidelined for at least two weeks with a hamstring injury.
