Although president of basketball operations Austin Ainge stated on September 28 that Filipowski was cleared for training camp, head coach Will Hardy revealed that the center/forward is still not doing on-court work and has missed both preseason contests.

Hardy stated that Filipowski is progressing well through his rehabilitation steps and expressed hope that he will return soon. Filipowski's continued absence adds to Utah's frontcourt injury issues, as starting center Jusuf Nurkic is also sidelined for at least four weeks due to a toe injury.
