The Dallas Cowboys have waived running back Emari Demercado after playing just two games with the team. Dallas released the former Arizona Cardinals rusher to activate starting guard Tyler Smith from injured reserve ahead of their contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Because Demercado has three years of NFL experience, he must clear waivers before becoming eligible for free agency or a practice squad spot.
Demercado totaled 15 yards on five carries across two appearances for Dallas before being named a healthy scratch in recent matchups behind Tyler Goodson and Javonte Williams. Prior to joining the Cowboys, Demercado played 40 games across three seasons with the Cardinals, where he logged 834 rushing yards and three touchdowns before brief offseason stints with Kansas City and Dallas.
