The Atlanta Falcons are turning to a veteran journeyman as insurance for the dinged-up Michael Penix Jr.

The Atlanta Falcons are reportedly signing veteran quarterback Andy Dalton to add depth following a rib injury scare for starter Michael Penix Jr., according to Adam Schefter. To make room on the roster, the Falcons are releasing quarterback Cooper Rush, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The 38-year-old Dalton recently parted ways with the Philadelphia Eagles after a brief appearance earlier in the season. Writer Jason Kandel views the addition of Dalton as an experienced insurance policy and mentor for Penix, providing Atlanta with a seasoned option capable of competing with Tua Tagovailoa for the backup role.
