Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. avoided a serious injury during Sunday night's 30-23 overtime loss to the Baltimore Ravens, according to multiple reports on Monday. The team plans to evaluate Penix in practice this week before deciding on his availability for the upcoming Week 6 home game against the Chicago Bears. Penix suffered the rib injury on a late fourth-quarter sack by Tavius Robinson and did not return for overtime as the pain worsened.
Tua Tagovailoa took over for Penix in overtime and threw a game-ending interception on his second snap. Falcons coach Kevin Stefanski stated that imaging results should provide more clarity by Wednesday. Penix was making his third appearance of the season following his return from ACL surgery, having thrown for 719 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception across three games.
