Dillon Gabriel is nearing his Browns return, but Mary Kay Cabot’s latest report delivers a clear answer about his place in the quarterback room.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Dillon Gabriel is not expected to overtake Shedeur Sanders for the backup role once activated to the 53-man roster, according to Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com. Gabriel is nearing a return from a back injury before his 21-day practice window closes. However, the organization remains pleased with Sanders' development behind starter Deshaun Watson.
Despite having four quarterbacks including rookie Taylen Green, the Browns reportedly have no plans to trade Gabriel or Sanders. Sanders recently signed with an agent, but Cabot confirmed the move was not a trade request, as the team intends to retain and develop its quarterback depth.
