Buffalo Bills head coach Joe Brady has addressed the team's choice to cut safety CJ Gardner-Johnson, calling it a decision made in the franchise's best interests. The roster move followed Gardner-Johnson receiving a one-game suspension for spitting toward opponent Brock Bowers. Brady explained to reporters ahead of Week 9 that the decision was not easy because he valued the safety's edge and personality, but noted it opened opportunities for other players.
Gardner-Johnson joined Buffalo during the offseason on a $3.5 million contract after previous stints with Chicago, Houston, and Philadelphia. HITC reports that his on-field performance had been unconvincing prior to the incident, leading the AFC East-leading Bills to remove potential distractions as they pursue the top playoff seed.
