Longtime football coach June Jones passed away at the age of 73 on Thursday. Jones, who was renowned for helping popularize the prolific run-and-shoot offense, had dealt with health issues earlier in the year and recently entered hospice care, according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
A former NFL quarterback with the Atlanta Falcons, Jones later served as Atlanta's head coach from 1994 to 1996 and had an interim stint with the Chargers. He achieved notable collegiate success leading the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors to 76 wins between 1999 and 2007, and later coached SMU before finishing his career with the XFL's Seattle Sea Dragons in 2023.
