Dallas Cowboys safety Caleb Downs has quickly made his presence felt as a rookie.

Rookie defensive back Caleb Downs is proving vital for the Dallas Cowboys due to his positional versatility across a depleted secondary. Ahead of their Thursday Night Football matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas faces multiple absences in the defensive backfield. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer confirmed Cobie Durant is likely out with a hamstring injury, while safeties Jalen Thompson and P.J. Locke also remain sidelined.
According to writer Richard Louis, defensive coordinator Christian Parker has lined Downs up in the slot, the box, and at free safety. Through Week 4, Downs has recorded 27 total tackles and two forced fumbles. With newly acquired cornerback Joey Porter Jr. and DaRon Bland securing the outside, Downs is expected to start at safety while taking on increased nickel snaps against Tampa Bay.
