Thomas originally played four seasons with Dallas from 2022 to 2025 after signing as an undrafted free agent, recording 62 tackles and five pass breakups in 36 games. The team also agreed to terms with cornerback Alex Austin for their practice squad.
Dallas made the roster moves amid a wave of defensive injuries, with safety Jalen Thompson expected to miss at least four weeks with a hamstring issue. Safety Malik Hooker is also limited by a fractured forearm, while P.J. Locke remains on injured reserve. The Cowboys defense currently ranks 30th in the NFL, having surrendered an average of 387 yards per game through their first three contests.
