The Dallas Cowboys traded for Joey Porter Jr. to stabilize their secondary. Now a fan theory about his contract has taken on a life of its own, and the team has been asked about it.

Mauricio Rodriguez argues that an online fan theory accusing Dallas Cowboys cornerback Joey Porter Jr. of faking injuries to stage a contract hold-in is unfounded. Porter Jr. was recently acquired from the Pittsburgh Steelers and debuted against the Houston Texans, but later missed a Week 5 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to illness and is questionable for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers with an ankle issue.
The internet theory suggested Porter Jr. aimed to secure an accrued season for free agency before shutting down, but Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones dismissed concerns, stating Porter is committed to playing. Rodriguez notes that Porter Jr. has been enthusiastic about Dallas, that his previous dispute in Pittsburgh was rooted in front-office treatment rather than purely finances, and that risking his reputation would severely damage his future market value.
