Detroit Lions coach Scottie Montgomery explained that Jameson Williams' slow start to the season is largely due to defensive schemes focusing heavily on him. Montgomery noted that while plays are designed for Williams, defenses often dedicate multiple defenders to neutralize him, which successfully creates open opportunities for teammates like Sam LaPorta and Jahmyr Gibbs.
Parker Hurley notes that Williams has recorded 10 receptions for 127 yards through three games, putting him on pace for 719 yards. Despite seeing 17 targets, his efficiency has dropped, with a 59% catch rate and a career-high 16.7% drop rate so far this season.
