Lions star Sam LaPorta floated as a potential trade option for an AFC North franchise in exchange for a future first-round draft pick.

A to Z Sports analyst Mike Payton proposed a trade pitch sending Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta to the Cincinnati Bengals for a 2027 first-round pick. LaPorta is in the final year of his rookie contract and recently expressed frustration about his unresolved contract extension talks during an appearance on the Pardon My Take podcast.
Heavy writer Avik Das argues the proposed permanent trade could benefit Cincinnati by adding an elite weapon for quarterback Joe Burrow, while helping Detroit manage upcoming salary cap constraints. LaPorta, who has recorded 316 receiving yards and three touchdowns through five games this season, is set to enter unrestricted free agency following the 2026 campaign.
