Detroit added former Vikings nose tackle Taki Taimani to the practice squad Monday, giving the Lions another true space-eating interior option and adding competition behind their top defensive tackles.

The Detroit Lions signed former Minnesota Vikings nose tackle Taki Taimani to their practice squad on Monday while releasing wide receiver Lawrence Keys. Writer Mike Payton argues that adding the 324-pound run stopper serves as a push and warning for defensive linemen Tyler Lacy and Levi Onwuzurike, who have both struggled in run-defense roles.
Taimani appeared in nine games across two and a half seasons with the Vikings after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2024. Payton notes that beyond interior line depth, Taimani's background under defensive coordinator Brian Flores could also provide Detroit with helpful divisional insight against Minnesota.
