Former Houston Texans cornerback Steven Nelson gives his take on what's wrong with the team's defense through seven weeks of play…
Former Houston Texans cornerback Steven Nelson strongly criticized head coach DeMeco Ryans' defense following the team's 2-5 start to the season. Speaking on Will Kunkel's Kickin' it with Kunkel, Nelson pointed to poor tackling and questionable effort from players as major issues, calling their missed tackles inexcusable rather than a schematic failure.
Nelson also shared personal experiences from his time playing under Ryans in 2023, admitting he sometimes prioritized self-preservation and made plays outside the strict scheme. Nelson questioned recent on-field decisions, including cornerback Kamari Lassiter playing off-coverage during a Week 3 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
