Indianapolis Colts kicker Spencer Shrader overcame a pregame groin scare to convert four field goals in a 19-17 win against the Houston Texans. Shrader experienced groin discomfort during warm-ups at Lucas Oil Stadium but received immediate treatment in the training room before successfully playing. His kicks included a game-winning 53-yard field goal with 16 seconds remaining, ending a nine-game losing streak for the Colts.
Colts special teams coordinator Brian Mason highlighted the team's contingency plans, which involved punter Rigoberto Sanchez serving as the emergency kicker and handling kickoff duties to ease Shrader's workload. Sanchez previously kicked field goals in college, while tight end Tyler Warren would have acted as holder. Mason expressed full confidence in Shrader moving forward as the kicker improved to 8-for-8 on the season.
