Jayden Daniels is backing the Washington Commanders' big plans for a "decisive" veteran.

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels supports the team's plan to expand veteran running back Austin Ekeler's role. Head coach Dan Quinn stated that the offense needs a spark following a 1-4-1 start, confirming the Commanders intend to lean into Ekeler's workload ahead of a Week 8 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. Daniels praised Ekeler's decisiveness, quickness out of the backfield, route-running, and overall leadership.
Ekeler returned in late September following a torn Achilles and has logged only eight carries and four catches in three games. With Jacory Croskey-Merritt on injured reserve due to a groin injury, Quinn is counting on Ekeler's experience and receiving ability, though Heavy writer James Dudko argues the backfield still lacks an elite workhorse runner.
