The Kansas City Chiefs placed left tackle Josh Simmons on injured reserve Thursday due to a bulging disc in his lower back. The 23-year-old will miss at least the team's next four games, with the earliest possible return date being Week 10 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Chiefs head trainer Rick Burkholder revealed that Simmons plateaued in his rehabilitation, prompting the decision to avoid surgery and allow extra recovery time. Undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson is expected to continue starting at left tackle in Simmons' absence.
