he Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas is suing the state of Kansas over claims the new Chiefs stadium deal won't serve the people living in the area.

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas has filed a lawsuit against the state of Kansas regarding plans for a proposed Kansas City Chiefs stadium. Filed in the 29th District Court, the 74-page complaint claims that the Kansas Sports Facility Authority Act, enacted under House Bill 2466, is unconstitutional and strips the local municipality of necessary oversight and tax revenue.
Mayor Christal Watson stated that the legal action aims to secure an equitable process and preserve home-rule powers. The lawsuit names Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach and Secretary of Commerce David Toland, alleging the state authority bypasses local zoning, removes municipal tax authority, and infringes on the Board of Public Utilities' exclusive electric service rights.
