The Giants have made their call at quarterback for Sunday, and a familiar name for Minnesota Vikings fans is getting another chance.

The New York Giants plan to name former Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy their starting quarterback for Sunday's matchup against the Houston Texans. McCarthy replaces Jameis Winston, who was benched during a 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints. McCarthy came on in relief in the fourth quarter against New Orleans, throwing for 243 yards, one touchdown, and one interception during a 17-point comeback attempt.
Minnesota traded McCarthy to New York on September 28 for a 2027 fifth-round pick after signing Kyler Murray. McCarthy stepped into the lineup for the first-place Giants following a season-ending knee injury to Jaxson Dart and Winston's recent benching.
