After spending quite some time contemplating his retirement, Harrison Smith decided to sign a one-year, $12.25 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings and returned for his 15th season in the NFL. But will he actually retire after his contract comes…

Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith confirmed on The Richard Sherman Podcast that his 15th NFL season will be his last. After signing a one-year, $12.25 million contract in September, the veteran defensive back stated that he will retire at the conclusion of the campaign, despite podcast host Richard Sherman questioning if he might reconsider.
Smith decided to return after his daughter asked when they were going back to Minnesota. Although he holds the active NFL lead with 39 interceptions, Smith has taken on a reduced role in 2026, failing to start any of the first five games while the Vikings opened with an undefeated 5-0 record.
