With news that Patriots starting right guard Michael Onwenu is set for an extended absence after breaking his right ankle, New England could get creative in order to fill the hole.
New England Patriots starting right guard Michael Onwenu faces an extended absence after breaking his right ankle. Head coach Mike Vrabel is considering multiple offensive line adjustments, including the possibility of moving rookie first-round tackle Caleb Lomu inside to guard.
Veteran guard Greg Van Roten substituted for Onwenu on Sunday but struggled during his appearance. Other roster options include Ben Brown, Walter Rouse, Jake Kubas, and Xavier Newman-Johnson, while moving Lomu would temporarily pause his exclusive development at tackle.
