The New York Giants started backup center Bryan Hudson over John Michael Schmitz in Week 4 against the Cardinals. Schmitz had missed practice following the birth of his first child and remained on the bench despite being in uniform. Head coach John Harbaugh stated that Hudson had earned the opportunity through practice reps, though he maintained the benching is not intended to be a long-term change.
Harbaugh also revealed that the Giants had already been considering working Hudson into the offensive line rotation. Hudson played all 67 offensive snaps in Week 4, while Schmitz is set to become a free agent in March.
