After New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart suffered a season-ending injury, the team pivoted and acquired former first-round pick J.J. McCarthy from the Minnesota Vikings.McCarthy was in a quarterback competition earlier this offseason with Kyler Murray, who joined the Vikings…

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the New York Giants traded for quarterback J.J. McCarthy primarily because the Minnesota Vikings' asking price dropped significantly. Schultz explained that the acquisition was not intended to replace current starter Jameis Winston, as the franchise continues to view injured quarterback Jaxson Dart as their long-term starter for the next decade.
According to Schultz, Giants head coach John Harbaugh valued McCarthy's toughness and winning record at Michigan following conversations with his brother, Jim Harbaugh. Schultz expects Winston to remain the starter due to his recent contract extension, projecting McCarthy to serve primarily in a supplemental role.
