New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh reportedly bypassed normal NFL trade protocols by contacting Tennessee Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk directly regarding a trade for defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. Strunk refused to overrule general manager Mike Borgonzi, who had previously indicated that Simmons was unavailable. Strunk told Harbaugh that all football decisions remained with Borgonzi.
Despite the initial resistance, the Titans later traded Simmons to the Chicago Bears following a 1-6 start to the season. In the permanent trade deal, Chicago sent 2027 first- and fourth-round picks alongside a 2028 first-round pick to Tennessee in exchange for Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round selection.
