Commissioner Roger Goodell and the NFL "welcome" the players association request for an investigation into the medical treatment and protocol followed by the Philadelphia Eagles before quarterback Jalen Hurts was cleared to play with blood clots.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell defended the Philadelphia Eagles and league medical protocols regarding the treatment of quarterback Jalen Hurts, who was cleared to play prior to being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli. Goodell stated at league meetings in New York that medical steps were properly followed, while also welcoming the NFLPA's request for an investigation.
Hurts is on injured reserve and expected to miss the remainder of the 2026 season after blood clots traveled to his lungs. The Eagles noted that medical consensus initially deemed the clot superficial ahead of their Week 5 game in London, while the NFLPA advocated for a thorough review.
